JU$T ANOTHER RICH KID... IN NEW YORK

Ju$t Another Rich Kid’s Favorite New York Places

Lil’ Frankie’s (21 First Ave/East Village)
It’s brick oven pizza and other standard Italian fare. The space and crowd are great and the food is amazing. A huge wine list and the best baby meatball rigatoni you could ever imagine.

Mudd (307 East 9th/East Village)
It’s a pretty cool coffee house. One of the girl’s makes iced lattes using maple syrup instead of sugar, which is genius. The piece de resistance, though, is the homemade chipwich: two huge, freshly baked chocolate chip cookies with a slab of vanilla ice cream in between. This cannot be beat.

The Hummus Place (109 Saint Marks Place/East Village)
This restaurant rocks. It’s Israeli owned so the hummus is out of this world. It’s cheap, nutritious, and chill.

Florent (69 Gansevoort Street/Meat Packing)
Florent has been in this neighborhood for over 20 years (long before the “Sex In The City” wannabes showed up) and has the look of late 80’s New York downtown restaurants. It’s kitschy: both the staff and the actual space. I think I like it more now than ever as there aren’t many of those places left and I really like that aesthetic.

Hiro (in the Maritime Hotel) There’s a great party on Sunday nights. The space is gorgeous, the crowd is mixed, and it’s the right size so it’s not quite a club, but too big to be a bar. And no cover charge!

Dumont (432 Union Avenue/Williamsburg)
The food is standard American fare (great steak, mac and cheese, fries, burgers, etc) and the space inside is cozy, lighted for great ambiance, and the crowd is good looking and hip. The crowning glory, though, is the patio. If you’re going to eat, get there early and sit outside. Nothing in Manhattan comes even close to this patio.

Manitoba’s (99 Avenue B/East Village)
Owned by “Handsome” Dick Manitoba (ex lead singer of legendary 70’s New York punk The Dictators), this East Village bar somehow manages to keep out the masses of uptown yuppies and the bridge and tunnel crowd that floods the East Village on weekend nights. The drinks are dive bar standard (beer & basic mixed drinks) the crowd is chill, the jukebox is amazing, and every once in a while a fight erupts, which makes it even more worthwhile.
